Just as the great teams before them, the Seton-La Salle boys soccer team continues to be a dominant force in class A boys soccer. In just the past ten years, the Seton-La Salle boys team has won a total of 4 WPIAL championships and 2 PIAA state championships. The program here at SLS is statistically the most successful program in the entire state. As their regular season ended last week, they proved that they are very much in the running for both of these titles again this year.
They have already received the title of section champs and individual titles which include Tyler Balzer receiving Section Player of the Year, Head Coach Mike Thomas as Coach of the Year and Ben Aiello, Pozycki, Drew Buckholt, Joe Christopher, and Rocco Gagliard as All Section Players.
Now the team is again in the running for the WPIAL title, which they currently hold, and a PIAA title. Going into the WPIAL playoffs the Seton-La Salle boys soccer team is ranked as the number 1 seed, with two playoff wins under their belt already (6- 0 against Trinity Christian and 6-0 against Monessen). Last night (October 27) their win against Monessen put them in the semi-finals of the WPIAL playoffs and guarantees them a spot in the state playoffs for a shot at the PIAA title. The next game will be on Tuesday, November 1 where they will play Sewickley Academy (which was their only regular season loss). This game will prove to be a challenge considering both regular season games were played in over time. With their chances as good as ever the team may indeed bring home yet another WPIAL championship and possibly another PIAA title. In the words of head Coach Mike Thomas, ” It’s a great day to be a rebel!”
