The Rebel Swim Team has finally made its splash this year. Their first meet was on November 29, 2011 at BaldwinHigh School. There next meet is at Duquesne University against Montour. I had the chance to speak with the person with the most knowledge of the Rebel Swim team, head coach and sophomore biology teacher, Mrs. Meloni DiPietro Guthoerl.
Here are the questions that we asked:
How is the team looking this year compared to previous years?
The Girls team looks really strong, but with the Boys team only having 7 boys and no depth in numbers they will struggle. We will most definitely have WPIAL qualifiers.
On an average how many yards does the team swim daily, how long is the practice?
We normally swim 5,200 yards in a matter of 2 hours.
Since Seton-LaSalle does not have pool where do you practice?
We practice at Duquesne University Towers pool and have a bus to take us to practice everyday so the student drivers don’t have to park there.
What is your favorite part about being a swim coach?
Watching swimmers develop into a family and fast swims after a lot of hard work.
Do you have certain expectations?
Yes, I expect every single swimmer to work hard.
What is your least favorite thing about being a coach?
Dealing with attitude and complaining.
What is your most memorable swimming memory?
Looking forward to the Christmas practice.
Do you have any advice to students who want to join next year?
Its good exercise, its fun, and you don’t need any prior experience.
