Recently, there has been talk about Seton-La Salle having a track team this spring. However, there has been a lot of confusion regarding whether or not there will be a track team. After speaking to the athletic director, Bill Dabaldo, he made it very clear that there would be a track club and not a team.
He said, “We are trying to see if there’s an interest enough to have a track team, not a club.”
After speaking to Timothy Lyman, the current coach of the cross country team, he expressed to me that there was going to be a track club starting in late March, but there would not be a team. However, a few days prior to my asking, he sent an email to those who expressed interest in a possible track team that there would not be a track team or club this school year.
In this email he said, “Unfortunately I was unable to secure the appropriate accommodations to ensure a safe and effective spring “track club” season and at this point in time, we will have to forego this option. I was looking forward to planting the seed for a track team at Seton, but this will have to wait until the spring of next year.”
For about a week after the word got around that there would not be a track club this year. Because of all of this confusion about whether or not there would be a track team or a track club, many of the students did not expect to be able to participate in track until next spring.
An email went out about a week after the rumors about the cancelling the track club for the season spread, the coach emailed those who were interested with details about when the new track club will be meeting.
The track club will have its first meeting on March 21, 2018 at 3:00 in the cafeteria. Join if you are interested!
