As we near mid-February, our winter sports seasons are starting to come to an end. On February 1st, the Rebel swim team had their senior recognition meet against Bishop Canevin and won. The meet was held at Brashear High School and ten seniors were recognized: Ashley Aiello, Laura Barone, Erin Byrne, Maria DeAngelis, Mary Farnan, Rebecca Kelly, Matthew McGervey, Michael Reinmund, Nora Simmers, and Anna Watterson.
Senior swimmer, Maria DeAngelis, “It’s hard for me to believe that my senior year season is slowly and how fast the past four years went.”
She said that this meet felt different then senior rec meets in the past, because she was apart of it. She thought the senior recognition was well thought out. Anna Watterson, another senior, said that the season went well and they were the team to beat. Most of the teams in their section gave them a run for their money. She doesn’t have any future plans for college swimming. She also had great things to say about how she feels the team will do next year.
“I would have to say the team can only get better. We have a young team and they have to do some recruiting. If they really apply themselves they are going to go so far, and I can’t wait to sit back and watch it.”
The swim team has had a very successful season so far. Many of them are going to be swimming in multiple events and they should have a strong team competing in the Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) playoffs.
