Rebel Football: Season Round-up 2019

By: Liam Halligan

Seton LaSalle football  will not be making the playoffs during the 2019 season. because of its young team that still needs to become comfortable playing varsity. After 9 games, they ended up winning 2 games (Fort Cherry and South Side Area). It was an emotional season for the Rebels, and they were not happy. It was especially emotional during senior recognition game when they lost to Carlynton. Fans of the team may wonder, “What happened? Why did they perform so poorly?”

Three football players were interviewed: Nathan Trainer, Luke Stolar, and Justin Ranft to find out what they think happened this season. Trainer said “The team had a bad mindset, we should’ve won a lot of the games we played. But some players see things are going wrong and will start to give up.” When asked how he thinks we will do next year, Trainer said, “I think a lot better because we will be older and more experienced.” When asked what his favorite thing about football is, he said “The team is my favorite thing.”

According to Ranft, “People gave up way to early in the game.” When asked how he thinks we will do next year, he said, “I think a lot better because we start a lot of sophomores, and they will all become juniors with more experience.” When asked what his favorite thing about football is, Ranft said “I love my teammates and having fun playing football!”

According to Stolar, “It was a lack of organization and miscommunication.” When asked how he thinks we will do next year, he said, “Much better.” When asked what his favorite thing about football is, Stolar said “I love the brotherhood.”

Overall, as a starting tackle on the varsity team, I agree with a lot of what they said. The team was definitely a little disorganized as Stolar said, and people would start to give up as things started to not go our way. I do think we will be much better next year from our young team  growing and becoming stronger over the offseason. Once we become more cohesive as a team, we will perform much better. Even though this year may not have gone the way we wanted it to go, we all still have high hopes for next year!
