They shoot, they score, and they’re our very own: Rebel boys basketball are section champs! On Friday, February 8 the boys dominated arch rival, Bishop Canevin, 74-40 and are moving on to section play-offs.
“My biggest basketball accomplishment is winning the section title this year” senior, Eric Marasco said.
These boys are having a great time out on the court and are obviously doing a great job in their season. “It feels awesome just to be playing as a senior and having a blast out there,” senior Luke Brumbaugh said shortly after his big victory.
Two keys to the teams success have been having a great time playing aggressively and defending their basket. Each game has had an average of 45 points scored.
“The games are always a good time to go to with family and friends. They always have a “theme” and its just a fun time to scream and cheer on my fellow classmates.” senior Emily stated.
Last year the basketball team wasn’t that good, and now they’re section champs. I congratulate them.” stated Melissa Smith
Eric and Luke (two seniors) got into basketball through family and friends at a really young age and with the way they play on the court you can tell that their skills have greatly advanced. Luke is a guard/forward while Eric is a shooting guard but, also play point guard in occasion.
“My job is to handle the ball without turning it over, shoot when I’m open, and play solid defense.” Eric said
Now the team is playoffs, first was a bye week so now second round is about to start, the next game is on Wednesday but the location and time is still yet to be set.
Soon the boys will have a new banner hanging in the gym stating WPIAL CHAMPIONS. Congratulations guys and good luck on the next couple of games, bring a victory home.
