The Seton-La Salle Girls’ Lacrosse team is looking forward to ending a successful season, by making playoffs. They started the season 6-6 overall, while being 3-6 in section play. Sunday, April 23, they steamed through defending West Virginia State Champions 16-8. Other notable wins include an overtime victory against Peters Township and a comeback win versus Shady Side Academy. Senior captain and Seton Hill commit Olivia Caragein says “My goal for this season is to make it into playoffs, and win the rest of our games. We are in a really tight section, so every game is a challenge.”
Other players who are looking forward to continue their lacrosse careers in college are Jess Hudak (Gannon University, PA), Cassie Barone (Walsh University, OH), and Cristiana Nicholas (Otterbein University, OH ).
The Rebel Lacrosse team is a very tight knit group of girls, and with 10 graduating seniors, the senior recognition is sure to be an emotional night. When asked about the team, Caragein said “My favorite thing about our team is how close we all are. We just took a trip to West Virginia, and we had so much fun together. We also do a lot of different activities within our team such as team bonding, and big and little sisters.”
Agreeing with Caragein, Junior Abigail Bender says “We are honestly just one big family. Everyone is always there for each other and we always have a good time together.”
A specific indicator of how the girls are truly a family is that they always play “Go Light Your World” on both the way home and to away games. Sophomore Ellie Grefenstette also enjoys her experience on the team. “The best thing about the team is definitely the girls on it. Everyone is so nice and everyone gets along really well, which makes the season a lot of fun.”
With the season almost at the close, the Rebels hope to make one last push for playoffs. If they beat Oakland Catholic on their senior rec night (home on Monday, May 9 at 7:00), and Peters (at Peters on Thursday, May 12 at 7:00) , they will have a good chance to be the first Rebels team since their 2011 Section Championship to do so.
