Future Looks Bright for Rebel Swimmers

By: Nicole Nath

Five years ago a new sport was brought to Seton – La Salle that no one had especially high expectations about.  However, over the past couple of years both boys’ and girls’ swim teams have accomplished many goals, and look to achieve even more in the future.  Most recently, the Lady Rebels have qualified four swimmers, Maria DeAngelis, Nicole Nath, Nora Simmers and Anna Watterson, for the WPIAL championship in the 400 yard freestyle relay.  Qualifying at the first meet has never been accomplished before and qualifying in general has not been done for over 2 seasons when Amanda DeAngelis, Lansara Jaruthien, Nicole Nath and Emma Simmers qualified for both the 200 yard and 400 yard freestyle relays.  Making the trip down to The University of Pittsburgh this February to compete against the best WPIAL swimmers is something the team is really looking forward to.

With such great tasks accomplished already, the Lady Rebels swim team are looking for even more qualifiers and accomplishments throughout the season.  First off, these four swimmers have other relays for which they wish to qualify in before the season comes to an end.  These events include the 200 yard medley and 200 yard freestyle relay.  Also, individual swimmers including Anna Watterson, Nora Simmers and Nicole Nath have high hopes of qualifying individually.  However, qualifying is not everything.  The Rebel Swim Team has been moved into a new section and is looking like the top team to take the section title!  The Rebels plan to continue on working hard over the next couple of weeks to prepare for their first section meet against their rival Brentwood in January.  Come out and support you swim team as they work towards WPIAL’s and their section title!
