The Seton LaSalle dance team just had competitions at West Allegheny on January 21 and the Peterson Event Center on January 7th, where they competed against hundreds of other schools. They are really on a roll, and now, they’re coming to your variety show tomorrow.
The dance team’s official season has basically only just begun, and they are off to a great start.
They performed at the Peterson Event Center on January 7 and they came home with two champion titles for their pom and contemporary routines and a third place for their jazz routine. The next, bigger competition they had was at West Alleghany on January 21. There they brought back two more champion titles and a second place in their categories.
The Seton LaSalle dance team has practice regularly in the auditorium and sometimes room 304, Mrs. Pastor’s classroom. Mrs. Pastor is the coach for the dance team and she represents the team at their tournaments.
“Coaching the Dance Team is one of the greatest and proudest aspects of my teaching career. Dance is art, passion, love, dedication; dance expresses God’s love for us and His desire for us to find happiness through movement and beauty. Dance is physical prayer, and I am so blessed to be a part of students — and audiences — getting to experience this joy”
Alyssa Trivus is the captain of the dance team, and she choreographs the majority of the routines.
“I have these ideas in my head and I just kind of run with them, reveals Alyssa, I don’t really have a plan, I just roll with it and do what feels right. Luckily, we come out with some pretty cool moves.”
The remaining members of the dance team are Sophomore Alexis Mueller and Freshmen Penelope Zamborsky and Sophia Messina.
“Dance team is really cool because I get to really express myself by putting my whole self into every move. That way, I get to make each move my own”, says Freshman Sophia Messina.
The Rebel Dance Team has 3 different routines that they do, which they perform at their competitions. They are also currently working on a hip hop routine for the variety show on January 31 and February 1st. For the variety show, they will be performing their brand new hip hop routine and their award winning pom routine. The dance is on an amazing streak this year and they are ready show the world what they’ve got!
Because according to senior captain Alyssa Trivus, “It’s not about winning, however it’s nice, it’s about being better than you were yesterday and to have that itself is winning”.
