Marvel Studios has done it again with the release of Captain America: The Winter Soldier. On Friday, April 4th, I attended the film on opening night in 3D. I was blown away! I was on the edge of my seat the whole time. The film never had a dull moment, with surprises around every corner. It is definitely a popcorn action flick.

The film takes place two years after the events of The Avengers. Steve Rogers is now residing in Washington, D.C. continuing to work for S.H.I.E.L.D. while still struggling to adapt to the modern environment. While out for a morning jog, he meets and befriends Sam Wilson, a rescueman trained by military. Later that day, he works with Black Widow on a case to help save a vessel filled with captured S.H.I.E.L.D. allies. The next day, Rogers meets with Nick Fury to discuss a new project being organized. Fury is unable to access the data gathered for the project. While preparing for a rendezvous, he is ambushed by various assailants disguised as police officers and one mysterious assailant named the Winter Soldier. Barely getting out alive, Fury stumbles home to Rogers’ apartment and informs him S.H.I.E.L.D. has been compromised.

Rogers is questioned the next day on the events that previously occurred. He is accused of withholding information and is now labeled as a fugitive. With his own organization turned against him, Cap teams up with Black Widow and Wilson, who is now known as “the Falcon,” to uncover the truth of what S.H.I.E.L.D. is hiding empire_winter_soldier_coverand to defeat the Winter Soldier. Along the way, though, Cap will discover that his past has never left him, even while being in suspended animation all those years in the ice, and he will find out that both friend and foe alike are out to destroy him.

The film stars Chris Evans as the shield wielding hero, along with Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow, Anthony Mackie as Falcon and also starring Samuel L. Jackson and Sebastian Stan.

la_ca_0102_Captain_America Captain America was a box office success. On its midnight release, the film earned $10.2 million, while its total weekend earnings came out to be $302,123,721, already beating the total earnings for 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger. The new film broke multiple records, some of which being that it had the highest pre ticket sales for any movie in the month of April, and most importantly, the film now holds the title of the biggest April movie release…ever. The film keeps earning more and more money each day and is now the number one movie of 2014!

Personal thought on the film? I am a huge Marvel fan and Captain America is my favorite superhero, so of course I thought it was fantastic. The film proves Marvel steps up their game once again. They really know how to make a good movie. The Winter Soldier is the perfect flick for both fans of the franchise and casual moviegoers. It is full of action, the acting is great, and the plot line is amazing. If you have not seen the movie yet, I advise you go and see it soon! You will not regret it!
